Polylog in the Netherlands

We were invited to give a talk at AvailabilIT, a conference organized by the Dutch student organization SNiC.

Dressing room
Love the venue’s backstage.

We gave the talk as a group, featuring Richard Hladík, Tom Sláma, and myself. Only Vašek Rozhoň was missing due to parental duties. I talked about how to get started making videos, Tom Sláma discussed Motion Canvas and Richard Hladík delivered the “meat” of the talk, which was about why randomness is so important in algorithm design. Unfortunately, the talk was not recorded, but you can watch my dramatic reenactment here:

We’ll also turn the “99% is easy” part into a standalone Polylog video.

Thanks to Hayel and Bram for inviting us! I was impressed at how well the conference was organized: they had buses from all over the Netherlands bringing students to the conference in Apeldoorn from different cities across the country in the morning, and back home in the evening. We also got to hang out with Pedro and Ajob from CERN, who gave a great closing keynote talk about maintaining an open-source project over 20 years. It made me want to open some pull requests (perhaps on the Strudel repo?).
